Thursday the U.S. House of Representatives passed a historic vote on a resolution to formalize the procedures in President Trump’s impeachment inquiry.

With a final tally of 232-196, Reps pretty much voted along party lines as every single GOP member of the House voted against the resolution with a now independent Justin Amash out of Michigan voting in favor. Meanwhile, only two Democrats, New Jersey’s Jeff Van Drew and Minnesota’s Collin Peterson broke with their party to vote against the resolution.

🤔 So what now?

A formal resolution opens the door to make the impeachment process public. Up until this point, anything involved with the inquiry whether that be interviews, depositions, etc were held behind closed doors which irked Republicans on the Hill and something they deemed “unconstitutional”.

With the resolution, the inquiry will now move from behind closed doors and out into the public as hearings will now be made available to the American people while members of the House Judiciary Committee, Intelligence Committee, and Foreign Affairs Committee will “determine whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to exercise its Constitutional power to impeach Donald John Trump.” This according to a letter sent by House Speaker to her Democratic caucus earlier this week.

Furthermore, the House Judiciary Committee “shall report to the House of Representatives such resolutions, articles of impeachment, or other recommendations as it deems proper” once the inquiry has reached its end.

Obviously too this isn’t good news for Trump but what makes matters worse is that only two Democrats defected which may give some good insight into that all more important vote to impeach or not to impeach.

On the flip, the good news for Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP is the party remained unified in the vote, at least for now.

🍊 Donald Trump’s reaction

Donald Trump was unsurprisingly pissed off at what happened today as he continued to peddle the notion that he’s a victim of a “witch hunt”.
