One of the biggest rivalries in the world and maybe some of the most heated debate is centered around the Marvel vs. DC discourse. You have the likes of the X-Men, Spider-Man and the Scarlett Witch going up against Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

All incredible and iconic characters in their own right. But who currently holds the more popular universe?

Recently, Game.co.uk  surveyed Google search data from around the world separating what was found by country and state. According to those results, Marvel came out on top in terms of search data in 51 of the 60 total countries looked at. In the U.S., the ratio percentage was smaller, however, Marvel was more searched than their big comic counterpart in 28 total states. Of all the superheroes searched, Spider-Man was the most Googled character globally.

The good news though for D.C., in terms of the character search, their superheroes took two of the top three spots with Wonder Woman and Batman coming in two and three respectively with Iron Man coming in as the fourth most globally searched character.

For the villains, Marvel took three of the top four spots with Thanos, Joker, Venom, and the more obscure X-Men villain Emplate coming in one, two, three, and four respectively. To add, Emplate’s appearance on that particular list perhaps adds more insight into why Marvel finished where they did as a whole.

Obviously this all doesn’t mean a whole lot. I’m a fan of both universes and I’m sure most fans around the world are too. Marvel’s Disney push with their purchase back in 2009 and the emergence of Disney+ assumingely played a role in these results.

Perhaps, however, the biggest surprise was Superman not making an appearance within that top four. In fact, the Man of Steel came out on top in just six countries.
