A South Korean delegation tonight announced that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has extended an invitation to Donald Trump to meet which the United States president accepted. This meeting will apparently happen by May of this year after South Korean president Moon Jae-in is scheduled to attend a summit with the North Korean leader in April.

In addition to the meeting, Kim has also affirmed that the North would refrain from any missile and/or nuclear testing which comes after a new set of sanctions were levied on the DPRK last month. Furthermore, Kim said he ‘understood’ the upcoming joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea must continue.

This is obviously a stunning development on many levels.

First, both Trump and Kim weren’t coy when it came to trading barbs against each other. I’m sure we can all remember the “rocket man” insults and “my button is bigger than yours” rhetoric.

Second, you have to wonder what kind of play both leaders are going to take heading into this meeting. If recent history has told us anything, flattery may be one of Trump’s biggest weaknesses, something Kim could be using to his advantage.

In any sense a meeting between Trump and Kim is much better than the U.S. President taking to Twitter to further make himself look like a fool.
