Massive ICE raids over the weekend yielded 35 total arrests according to the AP after the initial target was to take in around 2,100 total people.

One potential reason for the ICE and the Trump administration’s massive fail when it came to trying to meet their inhumane numbers is the mass communication and networking that citizens undertook to protect immigrants leading up to and during the weekend.

The AP further reported that immigrants rights activists led massive “know your rights” campaigns in cities like Houston, New York and Chicago who have large immigrant populations.

“To inform the public, they used hotlines, text networks, workshops, social media and promoted a smartphone app that notifies family members in case of an arrest.”

However, this isn’t the end to the Trump administration’s attempts to sow discourse amongst the American public when it comes to immigration and try to stop migrants and asylum seekers from coming over the border altogether.

This past week, the Administration has rolled out plans to limit the number of migrants and asylum seekers from Central America, allow officials to deport more unauthorized immigrants without a court hearing and have reportedly discussed lowering the refugee cap to near zero.
