It’ll be another big day on Capitol Hill Wednesday as Special Counsel in the Russia investigation Robert Mueller is scheduled to take questions from the House Judiciary Committee regarding the conclusions of the two-plus year investigation.
Mueller’s testimony in front of lawmakers could obviously be a pivotal day. However, aside from Donald Trump and the Special Counsel himself the indirect focus on the outcome from tomorrow perhaps couldn’t be any more crucial for anyone than Nancy Pelosi.
In recent weeks the House Speaker has been hammered by members of her own party over her reluctance to even open an inquiry of impeachment towards the President. Nonetheless, tomorrow’s hearing will more than likely strengthen those calls for impeachment among House Democrats.
So do the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi approach tomorrow’s hearings?
In a six-page memo sent to democratic House members today, Pelosi wants to frame the message that utter chaos is consuming President Trump which didn’t begin, and won’t end, with Mueller.
House-Democrats-Mueller-memoThe memo itself, which wasn’t just meant for members of Congress takes on the look of a political ad, something that was drawn up purposely in an effort to influence public opinion. According to Axios, Pelosi and the Democrats launched a social media campaign on the eve of the testimony using the hashtag #ReTweetTheReport as they look for the support of celebrities as well as an online grassroots movement to help drive tomorrow’s message.
Furthermore, in a New York Times op-ed, Neal Katyal, acting solicitor general under President Obama is looking to see three questions addressed tomorrow.
Those questions are:
First, did your report find there was no collusion?
Second, did your report find there was no obstruction?
Third, did your report give the president complete and total exoneration?
There would seem to be obvious answers to those questions, however, if Democrats are smart they’ll look to have those addressed with any further elaboration.
As far as Republicans go, they’ll have a very fine line to walk tomorrow as they try to undertake the task of discrediting Robert Mueller while at the same time supporting his conclusions of there being no viable evidence of collusion between Donald Trump and the Russian government.
