Baton Rouge

At least three police officers were shot and at least three wounded Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. One suspect is also reported dead, with others believed to still be at large.

It’s unclear if the shootout was racially motivated after the killing of Alton Sterling a couple of weeks ago. Police were said to be responding to a man walking with a gun and some witnesses believe this could have been a robbery gone wrong.

The FBI is also said to be on the scene of the shooting which has been secured.

We’ll have more as it becomes available.

UPDATE: The three officers killed in Sunday’s shootings were identified as Montrell Jackson and Matthew Gerald of the Baton Rouge Police Department and Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Garafola.

The shooter was identified as Gavin Long who went by the name of Cosmo Setepenra, a former United States Marine who served in Iraq.

Further reports suggest Long belonged to anti-government and conspiracy theory groups.

The 29-year old Long also reportedly rented a car in Kansas City and drove it down to Baton Rouge.
