President Donald Trump has officially removed Pam Bondi from her role as attorney general, marking the second major cabinet-level shakeup in recent weeks and signaling continued instability inside the administration’s top ranks.

According to multiple reports Thursday, Bondi was informed after days of internal discussions and a direct conversation with Trump in which sources described the exchange as “tough.” During the conversation, Trump reportedly made clear that Bondi’s time leading the Department of Justice was nearing an end.

In her place, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will step in as acting attorney general on an interim basis while the White House weighs a permanent replacement.

Trump announced the move publicly through a post on Truth Social, praising Bondi’s service while offering no direct explanation for the dismissal.

“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend,” Trump wrote, adding that she would be transitioning to “a much needed and important new job in the private sector.”

Despite the public praise, reports indicate frustration had been building behind closed doors for weeks.

A central issue appears to have been Bondi’s handling of the Department of Justice’s investigative files tied to Jeffrey Epstein. The administration had faced intense criticism from both supporters and opponents over delays, transparency concerns, and the politically explosive nature of the files.

Sources also say Trump had grown increasingly dissatisfied with what he viewed as Bondi’s failure to aggressively pursue legal action against political opponents. That frustration reportedly became a major factor in the decision to remove her.

Bondi’s tenure itself had already drawn criticism from legal groups and former Justice Department officials, many of whom warned that the DOJ’s long-standing norm of political independence was being eroded.

The administration’s decision to install Blanche, one of Trump’s closest legal allies and former personal attorneys, is expected to further intensify those concerns.

For now, the White House has not announced whether Blanche’s appointment will remain temporary or if another nominee will be selected in the coming days.

For the administration, the move underscores a broader pattern of rapid personnel shifts and a growing willingness to reshape cabinet leadership amid mounting political pressure.

From the outside, the decision raises fresh questions about the direction of the Justice Department and whether its priorities will continue to align more directly with White House political objectives.
