Hotel workers in the Los Angeles area have had enough of low wages and the high cost of living in Southern California.

Sunday, several thousand workers within the industry went on strike according to the New York Times demanding an immediate increase in their wagers to $5 per hour with $3 increases each year to offset that high cost of living.

The striking workers were additionally joined by WGA members who showed solidarity Lynette Rice of Deadline writes.

Several WGA picketers tweeted about joining the other union in their fight. Some writers even suggested how to update their picket signs to show solidarity to the hotel workers.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the strike, the Los Angeles Times reports that no progress has been made with negotiations since the union’s contract expired at midnight last Friday.

It’s been a hot year for labor risings as the hotel workers’ strike has been just the latest instance of the working class rising and demanding more from their employers. Earlier this year, the Writers Guild took to the picket line, and soon maybe joined by the Actors Guild soon. In May, there was a three-day walkout involving teachers and school workers while the busiest ports in L.A. and Long Beach were shut down by dockworkers before a tentative agreement was reached in mid-June.
