One of the worst kept secrets for the 2020 race was whether or not former Vice President Joe Biden was going to throw his hat into the mix. Thursday he ended all speculation by making his entrance official.

Again, the announcement was just a formality as Biden has already been campaigning now for months. Nonetheless he’ll make his first television appearance as an official 2020 candidate Friday when he goes on ABC’s “The View” before making his way to Pittsburgh for his first campaign rally early next week.

Our Take

Biden’s age will be used against him namely by his democratic opponents and their supporters leading up to the primaries. However take that out of it and you still have a candidate pitching the same tired neoliberal policy that’ll appeal to moderates but won’t ultimately do anything in this Country to remove the stigma of the status quo.

A Trump vs. Biden 2020 general election doesn’t sound as bad as what we got in 2016 but it still sounds pretty fucking awful. Maybe we’ll get a return of those Joe Biden memes though that everyone loved.

Former President Barack Obama released a statement through his spokeswoman Katie Hill:

“President Obama has long said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made. He relied on the Vice President’s knowledge, insight, and judgment throughout both campaigns and the entire presidency. The two forged a special bond over the last 10 years and remain close today.”
