Luke Perry, who became a mainstay in Hollywood during the 1990s after his role as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210 died Monday as a result of complications from what was described as a ‘massive stroke’ suffered last Wednesday. He was only 52 years old.

Via TMZ:

Luke passed away Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank. According to his rep, Luke was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.

As we first reported, he was rushed to the hospital last Wednesday morning after suffering the stroke while at his Sherman Oaks, CA home. According to the emergency dispatch audio — obtained by TMZ — paramedics received a call for a stroke at the residence. We’re told when EMTs arrived, he was responsive and talking … but his condition deteriorated.

According to Perry’s reps, Doctors had sedated the actor in hope that his brain would be able to recover. However the neurological damage from the stroke proved to be too much.

Perry’s acting career after 90210 took off as he was able to land prominent roles in “Another World,” “Oz,” “Jeremiah,” “Windfall,” “John from Cincinnati,” and “Body of Proof.” He most recent acting credit came playing Archie’s dad on CW’s hit show, “Riverdale.”

In any sense, the 90’s became synonymous with Luke Perry and Luke Perry became synonymous with the 90’s. Perry though was able to break free of the 90’s gimmick and transcend the decade.

RIP.
