Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart ripped into a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday over not only their gross negligence when it came to figuring out a way to fund the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act and Victim Compensation but also for the empty chairs among the committee members during the hearing.
The act which is suppose to provide healthcare and financial support to victims and first responders of the worst tragedy on American soil in almost eighty years, the fund has begun to turn into a massive failure with the surge of new claimants.
Stewart addressed the subcommittee just after Luis Alvarez, a NYPD first responder and military veteran gave his statement on the day before he was scheduled to undergo a 69th round of chemotherapy.

“Behind me,” Stewart noted, “a filled room of 9/11 responders, and in front of me, a nearly empty Congress. Sick and dying, they brought themselves down here to speak. To no one. … You should be ashamed of yourselves for those that aren’t here, but you won’t be because accountability doesn’t appear to be something that occurs in this chamber.”
Now if you needed any reminders as to why government fucking sucks and is completely useless well here you go. Not that police have done themselves any favors when it comes to their own shitty reputations but when you have an event like 9/11 when the police are actually out there saving lives instead of taking them the Federal Government shits the bed on an Act that’ll maybe help save a few more lives in the process. Yet every excuse in the book will be brought up as to why this can’t be paid for. Not to mention student loan forgiveness, healthcare for all or the fact that Flint, Michigan still doesn’t have clean fucking drinking water. Yet the Federal Government can go on all day about funding a stupid fucking wall, the supposed War of Terror or impending wars against Venezuela and Iran.
