The situation in Cuba has obviously generated plenty of political discourse, none of which should be “complicated” considering it’s not really a complicated situation.

Sure the corporate media in the United States will make the situation appear complicated, especially the more liberal-leaning networks like CNN and MSNBC who’ll go on about the plight of the Cuban people without mentioning a word about the U.S. imposed sanctions and trade embargo. Those same sanctions and that same embargo that continue to deprive the island nation of much-needed medical supplies during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On the other hand, the conservative reactionaries on Fox News will further push the same tired neo-McCarthy talking points while the Mayor of Miami — Francis X. Suarez, beats the neoconservative war drum that perhaps the United States should think about airstrikes in Cuba.

The Leftist Perspective

The EMPIRE Media is in large part an anarcho-communist website that will espouse anarcho-communist ideology. However, we have great respect for other forms of leftist thought and ideology as we all work toward a shared goal of ridding the world of capitalism.

This brings us to Cuba and yet another attempt by the United States to overthrow the socialist government there and replace it with a puppet regime that’ll establish parasitic neoliberal policies which will once again exploit the island nation’s natural resources, industry, and people. Of course, this would be to no benefit of the working class and poor in Cuba but instead further enrich big American corporations who are licking their lips at the thought of establishing themselves in Cuba under some governmental regime fully directed by the United States.

Undeniably, anarchists and Marxist-Leninists are going to have their very big differences when it comes to the generalities of Cuba and that’s fine. Hopefully, though we can put those differences aside and unite ourselves under the idea that the hands-off approach towards Cuba is the only approach to take.

Now, of course, as an anarchist myself, it’s my central belief that power undertaken by the state is a power that’s ultimately taken away from the people. However, it’s not my or any other anarchist’s place here in the United States to make any determinations for individuals living on entirely different land from our own. The future of the Cuban people should be in the hands solely of the Cuban people, without influence and/or infiltration from foreign governments like the United States.

The U.S. needs to immediately end the economic sanctions and trade embargo that is suffocating Cuba. The United States needs to stop all CIA infiltrations and efforts to topple the Cuban government. The U.S. needs to implement a complete and total hands-off policy when it comes to Cuba.

It’s really as simple as that.
