Overnight, it was projected by more mainstream media outlets that Joe Biden would win the state of Arizona and its 11 electoral votes bringing the President-elect’s electoral total up to 290 with 50.8 percent of the popular vote.

Biden’s win came as a result of a strong showing in Maricopa county where of which 60 percent of the population in Arizona resides and has seen a shift in political demographics over the course of the past several years.

“Maricopa County won the state of Arizona for Mark Kelly and Joe Biden,” said Steven Slugocki, chair of Maricopa County’s Democrats. “Here in Maricopa, we committed our resources to contact voters of color, women and traditionally underrepresented groups throughout the state. Our strategy proved to be effective.”

Biden is now just the second Democrat to win Arizona since 1948 when Harry Truman was able to carry the state. Bill Clinton had a narrow in Arizona over Bob Dole back in 1996, however, since then it has typically been a Republican stronghold going hard against immigration by voting into office candidates like Gov. Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The win for Biden though is another blow to the Donald Trump campaign whose been running across the country looking to file frivolous lawsuits over unsubstantiated voter fraud. The win for Biden also puts pressure on Republicans on Capitol Hill to publicly acknowledge Biden’s victory and call out Trump to finally concede and work with the President-elect’s transition team ahead of the January 20 inauguration.
