Despite what U.S. Government officials like Marco Rubio want you to think, a coup is underway in Venezuela led by opposition leader and Venezuelan National Assembly President Juan Guaidó.

An opposition offensive against Nicolas Maduro and his regime was launched early Tuesday morning with Guaidó posting an video to his Twitter account stating that the country is within the final stages of Operación Libertad while surrounded by armed guards who presumably defected from the Venezuelan military.

Appearing next to Guaidó was another political opposition leader in Leopoldo López who was reportedly free by defected Venezuelan national guard soldiers after the former Presidential candidate was previously put under house arrest.

“As [López] spoke on a highway overpass, troops loyal to Maduro sporadically fired tear gas from inside the adjacent Carlota air base as the crowd of a few hundred civilians, some of them brandishing Venezuelan flags, scurried for cover,”

“The crowd swelled to a few thousand as people sensed what could be their strongest opportunity yet to overthrow the government after months of turmoil that has seen Maduro withstand an onslaught of protests and international pressure with the support of his top military command and allies such as Russia and Cuba.”

“The dramatic events playing out in the opposition’s stronghold in wealthier eastern Caracas appeared not to have triggered a broader military revolt.”

It’s also no secret the basis of this support behind Guaidó who was largely unknown to the Venezuelan people prior his uprising over the past year. Guaidó has stated in the past that he’s on board with opening up Venezuela’s vast oil reserves to private and foreign countries. Go figure…
