Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew and the younger brother of King Charles III, has been arrested by British authorities as part of a renewed investigation connected to his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
U.K. police confirmed that Andrew was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest follows allegations that he may have shared confidential government information during his tenure as the United Kingdom’s trade envoy while maintaining ties to Epstein.
Authorities detained Andrew at the Sandringham Estate and have reportedly conducted searches at properties in Norfolk and Berkshire as part of the investigation. Police say the probe is ongoing and that no formal charges have yet been announced.
The development marks an unprecedented moment in modern British history. While Andrew had previously stepped back from royal duties and was stripped of his honorary military titles and royal patronages, this is the first time a senior member of the royal family has been arrested in connection with the broader Epstein scandal.
Andrew’s relationship with Epstein has faced scrutiny for years, particularly following Epstein’s 2019 arrest and subsequent death in federal custody in the United States. Andrew has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. In 2022, he settled a civil lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre in the United States without admitting liability.
Buckingham Palace issued a brief statement saying the King supports the legal process and that the matter is being handled by law enforcement.
The case adds new international attention to the lingering questions surrounding Epstein’s network of associates and the extent of potential misconduct among public figures.
This remains a developing story.
