📰 Mass shooting at El Paso shopping center

Another day, another mass shooting in the United States, this time happening at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas.

According to various reports, at least one gunman opened fire by a Walmart at the Cielo Vista mall area in El Paso. One suspect — a male — has been taken into custody with at least 22 people taken to a local hospital. Mutliple fatalities have also been reported.

Former Texas congressman who represented the El Paso and democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke spoke on the situation from Las Vegas.

Donald Trump has also tweeted on the shooting.

Images of the shooter have also begun to come in. According to Anna Giaritelli, the suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Dallas.

Video from inside the mall have also begun to emerge as shoppers can be seen hiding under tables as shots are heard in the background.

The shooting apparently started out in the parking lot of the Walmart as video has shown victims on the ground just outside the building. You can view that video here but just to warn it is graphic.


🆔 Shooter identified online manifesto may lead to a motive

UPDATE 5:48 pm ET: 21- Patrick Crusius — a white male — has officially been identified as the shooter. Unsurprisingly police took him in without incident.

Investigators are also combing through an online manifesto believed to have been written but the shoot to try and discover a motif. The very first sentence of this alleged manifesto talks of his “support” of the Christchurch shooter and the “Hispanic invasion of Texas”.

💬 Texas Attorney General confirms 15-plus have been killed

UPDATE 7: 24 pm ET: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton confirmed that 15-plus people have been killed in the shooting today in El Paso, Texas. NBC News has previously reported that as many as 19 people have been killed with 40 injured.

A gunman opened fire Saturday in a Walmart and around a nearby shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, leaving at least 19 people dead and 40 injured, law enforcement officials said.

Employees and shoppers described scenes of confusion and fear as they realized the sudden loud noises they heard were not boxes being dropped or construction but gunshots.

One suspect was in custody, officials said. Law enforcement sources say police identified the suspect as Patrick Crusius, 21, from the Dallas area.

Multiple senior law enforcement officials believe Crusius posted a manifesto online just prior to the attack. They say investigators are examining a posting they suspect is from him but that they have not officially confirmed it.

UPDATE 7:38 pm ET: Texas Governor now Greg Abbott now confirming that 20 people are dead and at least 24 wounded.
