Michigan sheriff Dar Leaf had some interesting comments concerning the alleged plot by a group of white domestic terrorists to kidnap Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and essentially overthrow the state government in Lansing.
âItâs just a charge, and they say a âplot to kidnapâ and you got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor, and they want her arrested. So are they trying to arrest or was it a kidnap attempt? Because you can still in Michigan if itâs a felony, make a felony arrest,â Leaf said. âI think itâs MCL 764.4, 764.5 somewhere on there [MCL 764.16]and it doesnât say if you are an elected office that youâre exempt from that arrest. I have to look at it from that angle and Iâm hoping thatâs more what it is, in fact, these guys are innocent till proven guilty so Iâm not even sure if they had any part of it.â
Leaf does not regret sharing the stage with the Nulls.
âThe two gentlemen that I know of from my county, were they involved in that? I donât know. Theyâre innocent till proven guilty,â Leaf said. âAnd we really, really should be careful, trying to try them in the media.â
In addition to this, Leaf was also a speaker at a rally in Michigan earlier this year to protest Whitmerâs stay-at-home order. Appearing alongside Leaf was William Null, one of the men arrested for conspiring to kidnap the Michigan governor.
It may seem like something like this is surprising, however, law enforcement cozying up to far-right and white supremacists groups as well as individuals have become more prominent these past few months. Letâs not forget the cops who were handing out water to Kenosha killer Kyle Rittenhouse while letting him walk after he killed two people during a night of protests in that city.
