Robot accidentally sets off explosive device in New Jersey

New Jersey

A police robot accidentally detonated a suspicious device left at a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey just before the busy Monday morning commute across the New York City area.

The device was one five separate suspicious items located inside a trash bin in Elizabeth as authorities now suspect a terror cell possibly in and around the New York/New Jersey metro area.

According to Andy Mai of the New York Daily Newsthe four remaining suspicious devices were not detonated and instead were taken to the Middlesex Fire Academy where they would be picked up by the FBI.

In addition to the early morning detonation in Elizabeth there was a series of separate incidents in the New York/New Jersey area over the weekend that involved suspicious devices and explosions. A day prior a pressure cooker bomb exploded and injured 29 people in Chelsea, New York while another device was found four blocks away.

UPDATE: Authorities are now looking for 28-year old Ahmad Khan Rahami who is wanted in connection with the bombing in Chelsea.
