Iran Names Mojtaba Khamenei Supreme Leader as War Intensifies 🇮🇷

Iran’s political leadership has moved quickly to consolidate power after the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, appointing his son Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

The decision comes during the most dangerous military confrontation in the Middle East in decades. U.S. and Israeli forces have carried out repeated airstrikes on Iranian military and energy infrastructure, while Iranian missiles and drones have targeted military installations and energy facilities across the region.

The appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei signals continuity rather than reform within Iran’s leadership. The younger Khamenei has long been seen as closely aligned with Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the military institution that plays a central role in both domestic politics and regional strategy.

Regional tensions have escalated dramatically in recent days. Iranian drones and missiles have struck targets across Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Some of the strikes have targeted oil infrastructure and military bases believed to host American forces.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials say American and Israeli air operations have struck multiple Iranian oil sites near Tehran as part of an effort to degrade Iran’s military and economic capabilities.

Global reaction has been swift. China has warned that the war “should never have happened,” while European leaders have urged restraint as fears grow that the conflict could expand into a wider regional war.

With the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran appears to be preparing for a prolonged confrontation rather than a negotiated settlement.
