Donald Trump vs. Steve Bannon ultimately looks like it’s gone to the 45th President.
Tuesday afternoon, Bannon stepped down from his post as executive chairman at Breitbart a position he’s held since 2012. This is according to Breitbart themselves as well as several other news outlets.
Bannon said, “I’m proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform” while Breitbart CEO Larry Solov added “Steve is a valued part of our legacy, and we will always be grateful for his contributions, and what he has helped us to accomplish.”
Bannon’s departure comes amid his fallout with Trump over remarks the former White House chief strategist made in Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury” where he called out members of Trump’s immediate family including Don Jr. who he said would “crack like an egg” under the pressure of the Russia investigation. Bannon also referred to that infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russian lawyers (attending by high level Trump campaign officials including Don Jr., Jared Kusher and Paul Manafort) promising “dirt” on Hillary Clinton as “treasonous”.
Trump dismissed Bannon back in August as his Chief Strategist but still maintained contact with him in the months after. It’s also being reported that Bannon’s exit was most certainly not voluntary as the Trump administration put pressure on Breitbart to force their executive chairman out.
