In the wake the failed GOP health care bill, democrats in congress are looking to make the private life Donald Trump is still trying to hold onto as a federally paid executive a little more public.
According to The Hill, democratic lawmakers have introduced a bill – fittingly nicknamed the Mar-A-Lago Bill – that would require the Trump administration to publish visitor records where ever the President conducts business. This includes the White House and any privately held property including Mar-A-Lago.
Sens. Tom Udall (N.M.), Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Tom Carper (Del.) and Jack Reed (R.I.) on Friday introduced the the Make Access Records Available to Lead American Government Openness Act — or MAR-A-LAGO Act.The legislation would require the Trump administration to publish public visitor logs for the White House “or any other location where President Trump regularly conducts official business.”Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) is also introducing a House version of the legislation.Democrats have hounded the Trump administration to continue the Obama-era practice of publicly releasing visitor logs, and they want him to extend it to the Florida resort he has called the “winter White House.”
The Bill is said to have an uphill battle in congress when you consider the majority however something like this should really be looked at as a nonpartisan piece of legislation. The job of the President is obviously a 24-hour a day job and the American people deserve to know who their highest ranking federal executive is doing business with.
And if you’re wondering if the Obama regularly disclosed visitors to the White House, they did. According to reports the prior administration published records three to four months after they were created. In turn democrats expect to see the first set of records on April 20th.
